  • CARLOS BETANCOURT (b. 1966, San Juan, Puerto Rico) is a Miami-based multidisciplinary artist renowned for his vibrant and layered artworks that delve deeply into themes of memory, identity, ecology, cultural heritage and personal experience. His compositions blend personal history with broader cultural narratives, often incorporating found and collected objects and symbols from various cultures and recontextualizing them to explore the interplay between past and present. With a career spanning more than three decades, his artworks have been exhibited in prominent museums and galleries and is part of significant collections such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art NY, the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, New Orleans Art Museum and Pérez Art Museum Miami. His work has been included in art fairs such as Art Basel, Zona MACO, Mexico and ARCO Madrid and has been featured in multiple publications including The New York Times, ARTnews, Art Forum, Gagosian Quarterly, Art in America and the Wall Street Journal. In 2015, Skira Rizzoli published his monograph, Carlos Betancourt: Imperfect Utopia, offering an in-depth look at his artistic journey. He has also worked as a curator as well as furniture and wallpaper designer and he has collaborated extensively in both public and private site-specific commissions with architect Alberto Latorre. Betancourt co-founded 801 Projects and the Betancourt-Latorre Foundation, both aimed at supporting artists in Miami and the Caribbean basin.     ALBERTO LATORRE (born 1969) is a Puerto Rican architect, designer, and multidisciplinary artist recognized for his work at the intersection of art, architecture, and environmental sustainability. He uses his work to blur the boundaries between artistic expression and our connection to nature. Latorre’s architectural approach is deeply influenced by his Caribbean heritage, appreciation for the Cycladic and Tropical Modern architectural styles, and a profound connection to nature. He emphasizes the importance of creating spaces and structures that foster a symbiotic relationship between humans and the environment. His work and collaborations often reflect a commitment to ecological preservation and cultural expression. Latorre’s work has received national awards. At their studio, both Alberto Latorre and Carlos Betancourt merge their unique talents to create a collaborative environment where art and design intersect with a deep sense of cultural and environmental awareness. Together, they are co-founders of the Betancourt-Latorre Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization benefiting artists from the Miami and the Caribbean Basin.
